As your cells lose the ability to fight free radicals and oxidation over time, cells break down and aging sets in. Fortunately, there’s some good news.

Age comes with oxidation

The oxidative stress theory of aging is relatively easy to understand because there is an apt metaphor to help explain it.

Oxidative stress, in essence, is like the accumulation of rust on a car. Through the years of wear and tear, rust slowly begins to show. First a little here, then a little there. Eventually, rust begins to overtake the entire thing.

Your cells act in a similar way. Researchers found early on that as you age, you begin to accumulate free radicals and other oxidants. This can come from pollutants in the air you breathe, the food you eat, your own metabolism, and even the simple act of living in an oxygen-rich atmosphere. The very act of living and interacting day to day introduces these free radicals and toxins into your bodies. If left unchecked, this can impact cell health and function. This is oxidative stress, the actual oxidative damage where oxidants (or these free radicals) are attacking the structures inside your cell.

Amazingly, your body has the ability to fight oxidants and free radicals. It’s encoded directly into your DNA and more specifically your genes. These antioxidant and detoxification enzymes, however, need to be turned on in order to do their job. One of the proteins responsible for doing it is called Nrf2

Nrf2 is the major activator of your antioxidant and detoxification defenses

Nrf2 is usually a passive protein. It’s fine spending its time anchored on the inside of the cell membrane. That is, until a toxin, free radical, or oxidant enters the cell. When that happens, Nrf2 gets released, travels into the nucleus, and essentially flips the existing switches that turn on your protective and survival genes. This enhances the cell’s ability to defend itself and help prevent damage that normally occurs when these compounds go unchecked. It’s a fascinating process, and Nrf2 plays a leading roll.

Nutrigenomics is an effective way to fight against the oxidative stress theory of aging

But it’s been shown that the activity of Nrf2 – both its sensing and signaling – as it goes through all the different communication networks in your cells decreases as you get older. Sometimes this process can begin as early as your twenties.

As the process of oxidative stress and oxidative damage began to be better understood, focusing on Nrf2 and finding ways to naturally activate it looked to be a promising strategy. While the rest of the world focused on supplementing diets with antioxidants – taking foods or supplements that can fight free radicals, albeit on a small, largely ineffective scale – nutrigenomic approaches proved to be a much more effective strategy. How could nutrition be used to reawaken your body’s already built-in ability to do what it’s supposed to do. Essentially, how could nutrition open up this pathway so our cells could either fight off toxins, free radicals, and other oxidants naturally, or exist in a constant state of readiness?

LifeVantage’s Protandim® Nrf2 Synergizer™*

What’s fascinating about nutrigenomics, Protandim Nrf2 Synergizer, and the research that LifeVantage continues to do is that we have learned to design a product with the right ingredients and ideal ratios to activate the Nrf2 pathway. This helps to keep your body performing at its full potential and helps us stay healthy for as long as possible.*

This isn’t a far-fetched idea. It’s been scientifically studied and validated over the years. In addition to several clinical trials directly aimed at studying Protandim Nrf2 Synergizer’s impact on the free radical theory of aging, we recently looked at two survival genes (NQO1 and HMOX1) known to be activated by Nrf2. If Protandim Nrf2 Synergizer does what is claimed, we should see those genes turned on. And this is exactly what we saw. Over a period of 24 hours, we saw just that during a study. In just one day, we saw a 40 percent increase in NQO1 and a 51 percent increase in HMOX1.*

LifeVantage’s Protandim® Nrf2 Synergizer helps give you the edge over the oxidative stress theory of aging.*

Do we know everything about the oxidative stress theory to aging? No. In fact, we’re just starting to scratch the surface. But do we know that Protandim Nrf2 Synergizer actually works? Absolutely. It is a scientifically-validated product that helps support the body’s natural detoxification processes, reduces oxidative stress by 40% in 30 days, and produces enzymes capable of neutralizing significantly more oxidants and free radicals than dietary or supplemental antioxidants can do alone.*

By helping cells repair and rejuvenate themselves naturally, Protandim Nrf2 Synergizer is helping us realize just what our bodies are capable of. Beyond the amazing results, it shows how even though we’re just scratching the surface of nutrigenomics and its impact on the aging process, the possibilities for the future are nearly endless.*
